7 Days Rongai Route – Mt Kilimanjaro

The itinerary below is for a six days Rongai Route trekking. Seven and eight days trekkers usually spend an additional day at Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,300amsl) to acclimatize. Eight days trekkers also stop on day two at Rongai Second Cave (3,450amsl) before proceeding to Kikelelwa Camp (3,600amsl).

5 Days Marangu Route – Mt Kilimanjaro

The Marangu route, also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are more than 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and more than 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut. Guests are supplied with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts have communal dining halls and basic washrooms, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Kibo Hut.

Many favor Marangu because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatization fairly difficult. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Marangu is unfortunately less scenic than the other routes because the ascent and descent are along the same path. It is also the most crowded route for that reason.

During the climb you will share a Hut with 1-2 other climbers, depending on the number of participants.

Jozani Forest

The Tour starts anytime from 9:00am up to 04:00 pm

The Jozani Forest is located in the centre of the Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, 38 km South East of Stone Town. The forest is a great place to encounter many indigenous varieties of flora and fauna, including the Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey.

Other species that you might catch a glimpse of include Blue Sykes’ Monkeys, Bush Pigs, Aders Duiker Antelopes, Elephant Shrews, Chameleons and numerous birds and butterflies. The best time to see the wildlife of Jozani is early in the morning and it is open daily from 07:30am to 5:00 pm.

Kilimanjaro National Park covering an area of some 75,575 ha protects the largest free standing volcanic mass in the world and the highest mountain in Africa, rising 4877m above surrounding plains to 5895m at its peak. With its snow-capped peak, the Kilimanjaro is a superlative natural phenomenon, standing in isolation above the surrounding plains overlooking the savannah.

Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes in the world. It has three main volcanic peaks, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. With its snow-capped peak and glaciers, it is the highest mountain in Africa. The mountain has five main vegetation zones from the lowest to the highest point: Lower slopes, montane forest, heath and moorland, alpine desert and summit. The whole mountain including the montane forest belt is very rich in species, in particular mammals, many of them endangered species. For this combination of features but mostly its height, its physical form and snow cap and its isolation above the surrounding plains, Mount Kilimanjaro is considered an outstanding example of a superlative natural phenomenon.

On this day you will visit the villagers and learn their lifestyles and their culture. You will see the traditional dances by the village men and you will also have chances to dance together with the native people in the village.

You will also get to visit the Local Fish market and see how different fish are prepared in initial stages by the Local Fisherman. Some fresh fishes will be taken and go for cooking class where fresh food will be prepared for lunch. This can be combined with cooking tour.

6 Days Machame Route – Mt Kilimanjaro

The Machame route, also known as the “Whiskey” route, is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. Machame’s draw is in its scenic beauty. However, the trail is considered difficult, steep and challenging, particularly due to its shorter itinerary. Therefore this route is better suited for more adventurous folks or those with some high altitude, hiking or backpacking experience.

The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the south, beginning with a short drive from Arusha to Machame Gate. The path leads hikers through the rain forest to Shira Plateau. Here, many of Kilimanjaro’s routes converge. Then the route turns east and traverses underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route

Spice Tour

Spices from Zanzibar are famous around the world and holiday to Zanzibar would be incomplete without a visit to the spice plantations. Tour guides will take you on a walking tour of the spice farms at Kizimbani or Kidichi; picking bunches of leaves, fruits and twigs from bushed and inviting you to smell or taste them to guess what they are.

Visit the Kizimbani Village – The tour starts from 8:30am and it takes 2 to 3 hours depending on the activities to be done. You will be overwhelmed by the abundance of botanical species growing in these gardens – exotic species, fruits and vegetables. Many of the species have medicinal properties and are still used by the local population to cure certain maladies. Taste a variety of fruits ranging from rose apple to the guava. Some rare plants like henna, perfume tree and lipstick tree are used for their value in preparing cosmetics. Pretty much all the ingredients of the average kitchen spice rack are represented – Cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, turmeric, garlic, ginger, chillies, black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, lemon grass, to mention just a few.
