Nungwi Turtles Aquarium – Zanzibar

It is a small pond which serves as sanctuary for turtles. The conservancy receives turtles which have been accidentally caught in fishing nets. The ponds is actually a large, natural pool in the coral rock behind and here you will be able to see, feed and swim with these beautiful animals.

Prison Island – Zanzibar

A prison built in 1892. It was never actually used as a prison and currently an attraction for tourists as it is known as a famous place for the giant tortoise. After a 30min boat ride with a beautiful view of Stone Town one also gets to see the other three island thus grave island, Snake Island and Bawe island, guests will meet the contemporary inhabitants of the island and the giant tortoises which were banned from the city of Stone Town which are more than 200 years.

Island was used as a penitentiary for rebel slaves by the sultans from the 1860s until the end of the slave trade. After which the British began building a prison on the island under the guidance of First Governor, Lloyd Matthews. This was completed in 1894. However, the ‘prison’ was only ever used as a quarantine Centre for possible yellow-fever victims.

There you will be able to see the giant tortoises that were imported from Seychelles in the 19th Century. Also beautiful marine creatures, coral reef and it is also a best site for doing Snorkelling. Once on the island, you have the opportunity to feed and pet the tortoises, some of which are over a hundred years old. If you have time you may also like to take a stroll through the forested interior where you will see a wide variety of birds, colourful peacocks, bats and beautiful butterflies.

This full-day excursion includes something for everyone. From relaxing on the white sands of the Sandbank to snorkeling for tropical fish and devouring a BBQ seafood buffet – guests are in for a treat!

In the morning, we board the dhow from Uroa Beach and set sail towards Sand bank. There, guests will enjoy and we will go to Michamvi village, we take local daladala for ten minutes to Michamvi beach then we board to the dhow for snorkeling at Mchamvi beach with full unlimited drinks and music to view the stunning array of coral and tropical fish that surround the island.

We then sail to the magnificent mangrove and Sandbank, a beautiful patch of white sand surrounded by turquoise waters. Guests can relax under the shade of our sample hut or swim in the sea water of the Indian Ocean. All that activity sure builds an appetite! For lunch, guests will get a test of delicious seafood BBQ served with a cool, crisp beer, wines, fresh fruits and other refreshing beverages. After lunch, snorkel among Clown fish and Moorish Idols or simply take a walk around the mangrove to witness the birdlife. By the time we set sail back to the Uroa beach in the late afternoon viewing sun set on our way back, guests will have enjoyed one of their favorite days in Zanzibar.

Village Tour

On this day you will visit the villagers and learn their lifestyles and their culture. You will see the traditional dances by the village men and you will also have chances to dance together with the native people in the village.

You will also get to visit the Local Fish market and see how different fish are prepared in initial stages by the Local Fisherman. Some fresh fishes will be taken and go for cooking class where fresh food will be prepared for lunch. This can be combined with cooking tour.
